The Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Police Force has recommended the dismissal of a Police Officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, who murdered a suspect, publicly, in broad daylight.

The horrifying incident took place in Delta State.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday at the Force Headquarters, the Inspector-General of Police, (IGP), Olatunji Disu, confirmed that the incident, which occurred on April 26, 2026, led to the death of Mene Ogidi.

He identified the principal officer involved as ASP Nuhu Usman, stating that the officer acted “in a manner that betrayed his oath” and carried out an extra-judicial killing.

The IGP stated that he immediately ordered the transfer of all officers connected to the incident from the Delta State Command to Abuja to ensure a swift and impartial disciplinary process.

According to him, the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) reviewed the case involving senior officers, while junior personnel were subjected to an Orderly Room Trial.

According to him, findings from the investigation established that ASP Usman breached Force Order 247, which regulates the use of firearms, as well as standard operational procedures.

The IGP stressed that no level of suspicion justifies the unlawful killing of a citizen.

“Their actions were unacceptable and have no place in the Nigeria Police Force,” he said.

Following the review, the disciplinary bodies recommended the immediate dismissal of ASP Usman and other officers involved.

The IGP added that the officers would be handed over to relevant judicial authorities for prosecution after their dismissal is ratified by the Police Service Commission.

He emphasized that the conduct of the officers does not reflect the values of the Nigeria Police Force, reiterating a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct and abuse of power.

Extending condolences to the family of the deceased, Disu assured Nigerians that justice would be served and urged citizens, particularly residents of Delta State, to remain calm and law-abiding.

“The era of impunity is over. Every officer will be held accountable under the law,” he stated.
