Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke is set to sign an executive order which will restore orderliness in motor parks in the state.
The decision followed Sunday’s killing of one of the governor’s aides in Ilesa, Emir Olamilekan Ajagungbade over crisis among factions of drivers union.
Struggle over the control of motor parks across Osun State assumed a new twist as an aide to Osun State Governor, Emir Olamilekan Ajagungbade, was allegedly shot and killed during a meeting in Ile Ife.
The victim, it was gathered, was at a meeting with leadership of motor parks in Ile Ife when some unknown person storm the venue of the meeting shooting sporadically resulting in his death.
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has however ordered the immediate arrest of all persons allegedly involved in the killing of his aide, Olamilekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, during a reported motor-park leadership dispute in Ile-Ife.
The governor also directed security agencies to immediately restore normalcy across motor parks in the state, while ordering rival groups involved in the leadership tussle to vacate the parks.
Adeleke, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, directed the Commissioner of Police in the state to ensure that all those found to have participated in the incident are arrested and brought to justice.
The governor described the reported killing, which allegedly arose from a dispute over the leadership of motor parks, as unacceptable, stressing that there would be no sacred cows in the investigation.
“The governor charged the Commissioner of Police to act immediately to arrest all those involved. Law and order must be maintained. There will be no sacred cows as all culprits will be brought to book,” the statement said.
In a major policy response to the crisis, Adeleke announced plans to reintroduce the Park Management System across Osun State, saying the measure was aimed at restoring discipline, orderliness and effective management of motor parks and garages.
According to the governor, he would soon issue an Executive Order to formally establish the new management structure.
“We are reintroducing the Park Management System. I will soon issue an Executive Order to give effect to the new management system to manage parks and garages across the state,” Adeleke said.
The governor further directed security agencies to take immediate steps to prevent a breakdown of law and order in affected motor parks and other areas where tension may have arisen following the incident.
He appealed to residents to remain calm, assuring them that his administration would take all necessary measures to restore peace and prevent further violence.
“We call on members of the public to remain calm. We will ensure restoration of peace in all the affected parks and areas. The security agencies are under instruction to ensure the sustainability of peace at all cost,” the governor said.
The latest directive followed the reported killing of Oyeyemi, who was said to have been attending a meeting with transport operators in Ile-Ife when violence reportedly broke out.
Governor Adeleke also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order, warning that anyone found culpable in the killing would be made to face the full weight of the law.
