Obi had raised eyebrows over the decision of the Turkish FA to continue the Turkish Super League considering  the pandemic nature of Coronavirus which forced the stoppage of football leagues across Europe and around the world.

Obi had said that his life is more important than football, and accepted the termination of his contract in good faith.

But, the former Tianjin Teda Football Club of China Captain is a happy man now.  His stand has led to the Turkish FA’s decision to call off the League, following criticism on the FA for not caring about the welfare and health of the players.

Obi’s Russian wife, Olga, had tongue lashed those criticising her husband for his decision not to play, saying she stands by her husband’s decision at all times, emphasising that, his life is more important to her and the children than the round leather game.
