COAS Charges Soldiers To Go After Bandits, Kidnappers In SW

Chief of Army Staff, (COAS), Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, has continued his operational maiden tour to army formations with a visit to 2nd Division in Ibadan, Oyo state on Monday.

Addressing officers and other military personnel, the Army chief ordered troops to intensify offensive operations and decisively flush out all criminal elements operating in the South-West.

Shaibu while speaking at Odugbo Barracks, commended the soldiers for their resilience, professionalism, and operational effectiveness in combating banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities.

He said, “I have been thoroughly briefed on your operations and the remarkable successes you have recorded.

“I commend your efforts and urge you to sustain the momentum. Go after kidnappers and other miscreants wherever they are, whether in bushes, forests, or their hideouts, and ensure these criminal activities are reduced to the barest minimum.”

Shuaibu also reaffirmed his commitment to improving troop welfare, announcing that approvals have been granted for the renovation of existing accommodations and the construction of new residential facilities within the barracks.

He emphasised that troop morale is critical to operational success and urged soldiers to properly maintain all facilities to ensure a conducive living and working environment.

The visit underscores the Army leadership’s focus on both operational effectiveness and the welfare of troops deployed in challenging environments.
