That as from May 29, 2027, Kingsley Chinda will be the Governor of Rivers State is a done deal. According to the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, Chinda will succeed the already lame duck Governor of the State, Siminalayi Fubara.
Wike emphasized Chinda’s status come 2027 on Tuesday during a reception in his honour by Ogbakor Ikwerre, the socio-cultural organisation of his Ikwerre ethnic nationality, at Obiri-Ehie.
While acknowledging dignitaries present at the reception, Wike, when he got to Chinda, introduced him as the “former Minority Leader in the House of Representatives and, by the grace of God, the next governor of Rivers State.”
Chinda, until recently, a Member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives. He, however, resigned from the PDP and his office as the Minority Leader, in the weeks leading to screening of aspirants to different positions in Parties. He joined the All Progressives Congress, APC, and was endorsed by the Party as its Governorship Candidate at the expense of Fubara who, seeing the handwriting on the wall, stood down from seeking a second term in office.
Chinda, unassuming, an accomplished Lawyer, is a long-time political ally of the FCT Minister.
