The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP has joined groups across the country mounting pressure on President Muhamnadu Buhari to pay more attention to the spate of insecurity in the country or resign from office.
Recall that the House of Reps recently took the president to task over the state of insecurity in the country.
A senator, Eyinaya Abaribe representating Abia State in the National Assembly, outrightly called on Buhari to leave office for his government’s lack of capacity to handle insecurity in the country.
Meanwhile, CUPP said the president is running a pariah government that’s too distance from the people.
Buhari’s government is a sad reminder of the late General Sanni Abacha regime, CUPP said in its recent outburst against the government.
CUPP, in a statement by its spokesman, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, said it was shocked to learn that the recent Visa ban on Nigeria, was as a result of worsening insecurity across the nation.
Having considered all factors, CUPP said the regime of late General Sani Abacha, in all its ingloriousness, “was far better than this present administration.”
According to the Coalition, “All indices are pointing to the fact that this All Progressives Congress government is bent on running this country aground.
All parts of the country are currently under security siege with killings, kidnappings, banditry and insurgency becoming the order of the day.”
CUPP said Buhari has no plan of reforming Nigeria’s electoral system left by previous administration neither does it has any plan to bequeatte one to the nation.
It said the electoral impunity çurrently being ” displayed under this government has reversed the gains of electoral reforms carried out by past administration.”
The Buhari government has impoverished more nigerians because ” Poverty is endemic on a large scale and it is visible wherever one turns to in the country while corruption, especially in high places, has continued unabated, adding to judicial/legislative rascality and ethnic cleansing that we have been living with is this international ostracization, ” the group said.
CUPP said in the light of all these Buhari should resign from office before it is too late, to save the country from the consequences of his “alleged incompetence.”
