A few days ago, nobody could have imagined that Godwin Obaseki, incumbent Governor, PDP candidate, in the just concluded Governorship Election would win. The propaganda was much. The campaign nasty. And crude.
But Obaseki not only won, it was a landslide.
He won outrightly in 14 out of the 18 Local Government
Areas of the state, with a wide margin of over 83, 000 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared him winner, just before 3.00pm, Sunday.
The election was held on Saturday, September 10.
A reliable source from Benin say that APC bigwigs, who had converged in Benin, seeing the handwriting on the wall, quickly rushed to the Benin Airport, boarded a chartered aircraft, even before the winner was declared, and left for Abuja.
Obaseki won a total of 307, 955 votes to Ize-Iyamu’s 223, 619 votes.
The total votes cast were 550,242 votes.
… Details, later
