Former Group Managing Director of NNPC, Maikanti Baru, is dead. He was 60.
Baru, who was the immediate predecessor to the current GMD, Mele Kyari, is said to have died Saturday. He will be buried according to Islamic rights.
The news was broken through a tweet by the current GMD, Mele Kyari.
“My brother, my friend, and my mentor, Dr. Maikanti Kachalla Baru, immediate past GMD of NNPC died late last night. He was of exemplary character and disposition. May Allah forgive him and have mercy upon him,” he tweeted.
Baru, who was the 18th GMD of NNPC from July 2016 to July 2019 had previously served as the Group General Manager (GGM) of National Petroleum Investment Management Services.
He retired on 7th July 2019 after reaching the mandatory retiring age of 60.
