Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has disclosed that he’s not interested in becoming running mate to former President Goodluck Jonathan in next year’s presidential election.
The Bauchi helmsman said his only focus is to win the senatorial election under the Allied Peoples Movement, APM in 2027.
Mohammed spoke on Sunday few days after a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP faction led by Tanimu Turaki, said it has picked Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The former Nigerian has yet to openly spoken on the issue, leaving not a few Nigerians confused on whether he’s actually planning to run for the nation’s highest office, 11 years after he left office.
His absence during the National Convention of the party last week has further nailed the suggestion that the former president is planning to contest again under the PDP.
On his part, Governor Mohammed said becoming Jonathan’s running mate is not a priority for him at the moment as he’s focus in representing his peoples in the Nigerian senate next year.
The governor made his position on the issue known while reacting to reacting to a post by an X user Nuhu Sada. .
“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” Mohammed stated.
