Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed serious concern over the worsening insecurity in the country. Atiku expressed this concern as he mourned the death of a former House of Representatives member, Honourable Abba Anas Adamu in the hands of suspected terrorists elements.

Hon Adamu, a former Lawmaker who represented Guri/Kirikasama Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, was abducted on the ever-busy Kaduna/Abuja Highway on May 3, 2026, by bandits.

He however, died in the  terrorists’ den in the early hours of Tuesday May,12, 2026,  while his family members, relations, friends and associates were rallying round for his safe rescue.

In a statement on Tuesday by Frank Shaiubu,  his spokesperson, Atiku described the tragic and terrifying death of the  former Legislator in the hands of terrorists as a stark reminder of the new low the security situation in the country has descended.

According to Atiku, the kidnap and subsequent death of the former Lawmaker represents a damning verdict on the failure of  President Bola Tinubu’s administration in providing adequate protection for the citizenry.

Atiku ,a prominent figure in the opposition Coalition platform, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and one of its leading Presidential hopefuls, accused the President Tinubu-led Federal Government of Nigeria of gross failure in discharging one of its sacred constitutional duties to the people.

“His (Hon Adamu) death is yet another grim reminder of the worsening collapse of security under the Tinubu’s administration.

“Let us be brutally honest; Nigeria is under siege ,and the Tinubu’s administration appears either overwhelmed, indifferent, or dangerously incompetent in the face of this national emergency.

“When a  former member of the National Assembly can be abducted on one of the country’s most strategic highways ,and die in captivity, what hope remains for the ordinary Nigerian who lacks visibility, influence or protection.

“This is no longer about isolated incidents. It is now a horrifying pattern. Nigerias are being kidnapped from highways, farms, communities, even their homes, while the Government continues to issue sterile statements, and recycled assurances that bear no resemblance to the lived reality of our people” Atiku stated.

The former Vice president regretted that under the Tinubu administration, insecurity has disturbingly evolved from a crisis to a cruel and embarrassing national routine.

According to him, while citizens now travel with prayers instead of protection, families sleep with only one eye closed.

He expressed serious concern that businesses and economic activities have been forced to close down, and farmers desert their farmlands on account of the worsening insecurity in the country.

Atiku emphasized that a government that has failed woefully in securing the lives and properties of its people cannot, in all honesty, claim to be in existence.

“A Government that cannot secure its highways cannot claim to govern. A Government that watches citizens get hunted like prey has failed the most elementary test of leadership.

“It is particularly tragic that the Abuja-Kaduna corridor and surrounding routes have remained notorious theatres of terror despite repeated promises, security budgets running into trillions, and endless propaganda.about progress.

“Nigerians deserve answers. What exactly is the security strategy of this administration? Where is the urgency? Where is accountability? How many more deaths must be recorded before this Government realises that press releases.do not defeat bandits”, Atiku noted .

Finally, he extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the people of Jigawa State and Nigerians over the painful loss.
