Atiku Cries Out Over Huge Money Paid Into His Bank Account

African Democratic Congress,ADC presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, has raised the alarm over unauthorized transaction in his private bank account.

The development comes on the heels of recent cyber attacks on some commercial banks in the country, by suspected hackers who tried to steal customers’ information.

No fewer than three commercial banks have raised the alarm that they witnessed cyber attacks by criminals who were trying to breach their systems.

The ADC presidential hopeful alleged that huge some of money has been paid into his private bank account unsolicited by an unknown person, alleging that his privacy had been breached, wondering whether the nation’s financial system is still safe.

Abubakar, in a statement issued on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, said the transfer—bearing the narration “Contribution Electioneering Campaign”—was made by an individual unknown to him and was neither requested nor authorised by him or his campaign.

Describing the development as “deeply troubling,” the former vice president stressed that the account involved is strictly private and that its details are not in the public domain.

According to him, the mystery surrounding how an unknown individual obtained the confidential account details raises serious concerns about the security of personal banking information in Nigeria.

“If the private banking information of a former Vice President and a leading presidential candidate can be accessed and deployed for reasons yet unknown, then no Nigerian’s financial privacy is safe,” Atiku said.

He warned that if it is established that persons with privileged access leaked the account details, such an action would amount to a grave abuse of power capable of exposing citizens to kidnappers, terrorists, bandits, fraudsters and other criminal elements.

The former vice president said the incident is one of several suspicious developments unfolding ahead of the 2027 general election but insisted it would not distract him from his political ambition.

“As political activities gather momentum, Nigerians should not be distracted by these tired tactics that smack of character assassination. Such desperate antics have failed before and will fail again,” he said.
