The Rivers State Police have assured that all necessary machineries have been activated to hunt down the killers of Ozomela Stephen Nwaocha, the Zonal Commander of the Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Council chapter of the State’s Security Planning and Advisory Committee OSPAC.
The Source reports that Nwaocha and three women were killed Monday evening by armed hoodlums in an attack along Oba Road, in Omoku ,Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to eyewitness accounts, the OSPAC Commander was shot and killed while relaxing with his sister and her friend close to his residence.
The Vigilante Commander’s assassination is yet another in the renewed wave of attacks and killings by suspected cultists targeting operatives of the OSPAC in the Omoku community widely perceived as a haven for cultic groups.
Comrade Nkem Godknows ,the Rivers State OSPAC spokesperson informed that the attackers struck at about 5.00 pm on the day, killing the Commander, and three women near his residence.
Two other victims of the attack,who were said to have sustained serious gun shot injuries, according to Godknows, are currently receiving medical attention at an unidentified hospital.
” Three women died on the spot, while two victims sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
“The police were immediately informed about the unfortunate development.
“My appeal to the people of Omoku is to remain calm, peaceful and continue with their normal legitimate activities.
“Nobody should panic. By the grace of God, OSPAC, alongside other security agencies, will get to the root of this matter”, the OSPAC spokesperson stated.
He called on the Rivers state Government and other public-spirited individuals to come to the assistance of operatives of the volunteer security group, lamenting that they are not being paid attention to.
Godknows specifically pleaded with the Rivers state Government to consider ways of encouraging OSPAC operatives as they are neither being paid salaries, nor have a reliable source of sustenance.
While confirming the unfortunate incident, the Rivers state Police Command’s spokesperson Agabe Blessing Kaborlo expressed confidence that the perpetrators will be tracked down and brought to justice.
“The Rivers State Police Command is saddened by this incident, which has disrupted the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.
“The Command condemns this act in its entirety, and reiterates that the perpetrators will be brought to justice”, the police assured.
