In a surprising move, Sokonte Davies, a strong ally of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has dumped the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and returned to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Davies, a former Governorship Aspirant of the APC in Rivers State and a founding member of the APC, announced his return in a statement titled, “Return to the Progressive Family: My Decision to Rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

He said the decision followed consultations with his family, political associates, constituents and elders.

According to Davies, he chose to return to the APC after assessing the political platform through which he could best serve his constituents, contribute to the development of Rivers State and support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.

He described his return as a product of “deep reflection” and said the APC remained, in his view, the appropriate platform for progressive governance, national unity and grassroots development.

Davies also recalled his role as a founding member of the party and expressed renewed commitment to its stated principles.

Davies also spoke positively about his time in the ADC, saying he had no ill will towards the party or its members.

He thanked the ADC leadership and the 2027 Vice Presidential Candidate of the Party, Amaechi, for the opportunity to serve and said political differences should not prevent people from maintaining mutual respect.

The development follows Davies’ recent political realignment in Rivers State.

He had contested the ADC governorship Primary and later appeared alongside FCT Minister Nyesom Wike amid moves linked to the Minister’s Rainbow Coalition.

The Rivers ADC subsequently criticised his political shift but acknowledged his right to determine his political future.

Davies thanked Wike for what he described as a warm reception and also expressed appreciation to APC National Vice Chairman  Victor Giadom, whom he credited with facilitating his return.

He however urged his supporters and political associates to remain focused and law-abiding, while calling on those who share his political ideals to join him in strengthening the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
