In addition to dealing with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s threat that she would never be re-elected to the Senate, Ireti Kingibe, the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, will now, also, deal with Activist Aisha Yesufu.
On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the very vocal and blunt Yesufu not only dumped the African Democratic Congress, ADC, for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, she declared that she would run for the Senatorial seat of the FCT in 2027.
Yesufu made this disclosure in a statement she posted on her X handle. Her decision, she said, stems from her clearer understanding of Nigeria’s future and her continued alignment with former presidential hopeful, Peter Obi.
Recall that Obi had, also, a few days ago, defected to the NDC.
Yesufu, who was a co-founder of #Bringbackourgirls following the abduction of Chibok Girls during the Goodluck Jonathan Administration wrote:

“The next couple of days will define the future of this nation. This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the ADC to join the NDC as I follow the leadership of Peter Obi, who today embodies the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works.
“When I give my word, I keep it. My decision to support HE Peter Obi first led me to the ADC. To continue to honour the promise, I am joining the NDC.
“This time I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat.
“I was fortunate to work with great and amazing people whose goal was a better country. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary at various levels.”
It is not yet known who Wike would back for the seat – an APC or PDP Candidate. Whoever, the contest for the 2027 FCT Senatorial seat will be tough.
