Power rotation within geopolitical zones in the North ahead 2031, when power is expected to shift to the zone, is atop of political discussion, even as preparations ahead next year’s election continue.
This is just as a former media aide to the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad Ahmad believed that the northwest will determine outcome of next year’s presidential election.
Ahmade urged candidates aspiring to contest for the presidency in 2031 to start building meaning relationship with the Northwest.
He made the remark in reaction to an X user @Minikothe3rd who insisted that Nigeria’s next President should come from the Northwest.
The user posted: “Late President Musa Yar’adua was a Northwesterner. Late President Muhammadu Buhari was a Northwesterner.
“After President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, like my Brother Waspee said, we should rally behind the North East. 2031 should be for the North East.”
Reacting, Ahmad, posting on X, the former presidential aide insisted that the region will remain a major force in deciding the electoral outcome in Nigeria for years to come.
He wrote: “The North-West is a major political force, with a substantial voting population and a long history of influencing national electoral outcomes.
“For anyone nursing a presidential ambition for 2031, whether from the North-East or North-Central, the time to begin building meaningful relationships with the North-West is now.”
