Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has asked the United States, (US), President Donald Trump, and international agencies to pay attention to the Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, where his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election.
Ademola Adeleke, the incumbent governor of Osun State and Davido’s uncle, is contesting the August 15, 2026 governorship election for another term.
In a post addressed to Trump, Davido stated that the US President and the international community was as a result of the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process.
He urged them to pay close attention to the election and encourage relevant authorities to protect voters and ensure that every vote is respected.
“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.
“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process.
“Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” Davido wrote.
He appealed for international attention to the election, stressing the need for peace, transparency and a credible electoral process.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” he added.
Davido had earlier said he would directly contact Trump if he became dissatisfied with the conduct of the Osun election.
The singer stated that he would tag the US President on social media and, if necessary, take his concerns to the White House.
“I’ll tag Trump, I’ll call Trump, everybody. If they still don’t see anything, I’ll go in front of the White House and say, ‘Help us,’” he.added.
Davido insisted that his comments should not be dismissed as a joke, expressing confidence that his concerns would reach the US President.
The singer also called on political actors and other stakeholders to allow the people of Osun State to freely determine who governs them.
“Leave Osun alone, oo, leave it,” he exclaimed.
