A group Ndigbo For Tinubu 2027, NDI-ABAT, has declared that the any joint presidential ticket between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwakwanso poses no threat to the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
The group said on Tuesday, in a statement that Obi/ Kwankwaso ticket, which is being considered by some opposition political leaders in the country will not be able to stop President Tinubu from returning to office.
According to the statement signed by the group’s National Coordinator and Secretary-General , Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Dr Ugwuoke Ugwuoke respectively, there are indications that the two opposition leaders in the country may have decieded to run on a joint ticket in one of the nation’s political parties.
The magazine reporst that Obi, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP has recenlty joined the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and is one of the top aspirants guning for the party’s ticket.
Also, Kwankwaso, a chieftain of the NNPP is eyeing the presidency in 2027, and may actually be targeting the position of a running mate to Obi considering the contention by some Nigerians, to the effect that the Presidency should remain in the South for now.
An indication that the two politicians are planing something, came on Monday when Obi participated in the yearly celebration of the Kwankwansiyya Movement in Kano. The Movement is the brain child of Kwankwaso, a former governor of the state, and former Minister of Defence under the Obasanjo’s administration.
But reacting to the possibility of Obi/ Kwankwaso ticket in the next year’s presidential election, NDI-ABAT said this will not pose a threat to the return of President Tinubu to office, for the second time in 2027.
The group said it will join other Nigerians to mobilise massive votes to ensure that the second term ambition of Tinubu is not truncated, saying 13 million votes will come from the south east alone for the president.
“We are targeting 13 million Igbo votes for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
“We are confident that Tinubu will defeat both the Obi/Kwankwaso ticket and a possible Atiku/Amaechi ticket in the 2027 presidential election,” the group said.
NDI-ABAT is believed to be working for the Minister of Work, Dave Umahi, a staunch ally of the president, and immediate past governor of Ebonyi state..
