On June 26. the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC will issue official access codes to political parties in the country to post their candidates on the Nomination Portal for the 2037 election.
The development is coming on the heels of the rancorous primaries by political parties across the country last month and the controversy that has trailed the
nomination of candidates for next year’s election.
As a result, many political parties have yet to issue Certificate of Returns to candidate expected to contest under their banner next year.
But speaking on Tuesday at a quarterly meeting with leaders of registered political parties in Abuja, the nation’s capital, the Chairman of the commission, Prof Joash Amupitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, said the portal will be opened soon for parties to upload their candidates for the election.
According to him, once the the access codes are issued to the parties, they would be ables to upload the names, personal particulars, and other required information relating to nominated candidates.
Prof. Amupitan urged political parties to ensure that their ICT personnel and relevant officers are adequately prepared for the exercise, adding that the period of submission will not be extended once the deadline has been reached
“The portal is fully automated and will close automatically at the expiration of the prescribed period,” Amupitan said
