2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Again, Super Eagles Disappoints

For the second time in  three days, the Super Eagles of Nigeria has disappointed its teeming fans by registering another 1-1 draw with the Warriors of Zimbabwe in Butare, Rwanda.

The Coach Jose Peseiro team waa shambolic against the Crocodiles of Lesotho in their first match and has, again,  played another 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe.

Peseiro made five changes in the starting line that played against Lesotho at the Godswill Obot Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.  Nathan Tella made his debut, while Bruno Onyemaechi, Ola Aina, Joe Aribo, Terem Moffi and Moses Simon were given the nod to start the match.

Sadly, the Super Eagles were behind in less than 27th minutes into the match as Walter Musona scored for the Zimbabweans.

The Zimbabweans didn’t look back after registering the first goal. They pushed further to get the second goal but met a resilient Super Eagles defense, spearheaded by Oluwasemilogo Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Onyemaechi and Aina.

Coach Peseiro made three changes on the resumption of the second half, with Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Okoh Boniface and Bright Osayi Samuel coming in for Tella, Aina and Onyeka.

In the 67th minute, Iheanacho got the equalizer for the Super Eagles with an assist from Simon.

After the equalizer, Nigeria pushed further to get the winner but it proved abortive.

With the draw, Nigeria remains on two Points alongside Zimbabwe.

Other teams in the Group are yet to play.
