A couple of hours after the Zamfara House of Assembly impeached Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau as the Deputy Governor of the State, Governor Bello Matawalle has appointed Senator Hassan Mohammed Gusau as his replacement. He is the new Deputy Governor.
Senator Gusau is representing Zamfara Central at the Senate. He joined Matawalle to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC, from the PDP, a refusal on principles, which cost Aliyu Gusau his job.
Protocol-wise, a Senator is higher in ranking than a Governor, and not a few people wonder how Senator Gusau would accept to descend to the level of a Deputy Governor where he would be subservient to the Governor, and work at the whims and caprices of the Governor.
Aliyu Gusau was impeached on Wednesday over, according to political watchers, trumped up charges.
