Yuletide Traffic: LASG Directs Communities With Gated Streets To Open Them

The Lagos State Government has ordered the opening of all gated streets in the state from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. to alleviate traffic across the state during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The government issued the directive in a statement sighed on Tuesday by the State Commissioner for Transportation,  Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

The state usually witnesses severe vehicular traffic during the celebrations due to the many activities that are earmarked by residents during the period.

The state government, however, directed the communities in the state to ensure that all gated streets are opened to allow for free-flow of traffic.

The Babajide Sanwo -olu administration also warns owners of gates and other structures erected on public roads without approval from the Ministry of Transportation to remove them within a week.

Part of the statement:  “The Lagos State Government has directed communities operating gated streets to ensure that such gates are opened daily from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. during the festive period to ease traffic flow across the State. heads?

“The Government also called on owners of gates and structures erected on public roads without prior approval from the Ministry of Transportation to remove them within seven (7) days of this notice.

“According to the Ministry of Transportation, this directive is in line with established State guidelines and aligns with the THEMES+ Agenda of the current administration, which prioritises the free flow of traffic, safety of lives and property, and the enhancement of ease of doing business in Lagos State.”
