Youths In Ondo Community Protest Against Refusal Of Monarch To Perform Rituals

For proclaiming himself as a born again Christian, culminating in his refusal to observe traditional rites, a monarch in Ondo state has incurred the wrath of his people.

Irate youths of Ikun Akoko in Akoko South West local council trooped to the streets on Thursday to protest the non chalant attitude of Oba Olokunbola Adedoyin to traditional rites.

According to the youths, this has led to incessant premature deaths of promising sons and daughters of Ikun Akoko in positions of authority.

The youths carried leaves, palm leaves, placards with various inscriptions to express their displeasure about tragedy that has befallen their towns which have been causing unrest and panic.

They claimed that Onikun of Ikun, Oba Olokunbola Adedoyin is now parading himself as a “born again Christian” who refused to do rituals and perform rites that can ward off the calamities.

They stormed the palace and threw leave and palm leaves, after which the only petrol station in the town owned by the Oba was touched during the protest.

Contacted, the monarch oba Olokunbola Adedoyin who ascended the throne 19 years ago, said he has been trying his best to attract development to the town since he became the Onikun of Ikun.

The traditional ruler, who narrated his ordeal in the hands of the irate youths, said they threatened to kill him and his son, before they attacked his petrol station where an attendant was matcheted and three generators valued N1.5 million  vandalized.

The royal father confirmed that he is a born again Christian and a prayer warrior that have been praying for Ikun Akoko.
