An unbelievable tragedy has struck the family of a young Army Officer who was a Medical Doctor.

Lt. (Dr) Samson Haruna, has been killed in a most painful, horrendous manner. He was, allegedly, set ablaze by his wife of five months – Mrs Rehty Haruna, a Nurse.

The couple got married on April 21, 2025.

Tragedy struck at  their Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Council, Akwa Ibom, when the newly wedded couple engaged each other in a heated argument on September 22, 2025.

Nobody can yet, say, exactly what the argument was all about. But the strong, but unconfirmed speculation is that it stemmed from text messages Mrs Haruna, saw and read on her husband’s phone. Suspecting it was from a girlfriend, and that her man was being unfaithful, she went into a fit of anger. As the heated argument continued, she, inexplicably, lost it, and, allegedly, doused him with petrol and set him ablaze.

The young Lt. was taken unawares as he never expected that his  wife of five months could be that evil.

He was, allegedly, alive to tell his story as he did not die on the spot. His heartbreaking screams attracted

his shocked neighbours who, immediately, rushed him, first, to the Military Reference Hospital within the Barracks, and later, given his critical state, the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.

But it ended in sorrow.

Every desperate and frantic effort made to save his life came to nought. He died a very painful death.

The young Lieutenant was the Regimental Medical Officer with the 6 Battalion of the Nigerian Army. Colleagues described him as calm.
