The African Democratic Congress, ADC, on Sunday August 3, 2025  expressed deep regret that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state has allowed his desperation for a second term in office  becloud his sense of reasoning and decorum.

This is as the  opposition coalition platform  strongly condemned what it called a shameful resort to name-calling, labelling and stereotyping of his political opponents by the Anambra State Governor

The ADC’s position is coming in response to the scathing tirade launched at the weekend by Soludo on those that said they would serve one term in office both at the State and National levels.

At a campaign rally of his All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA in Awka, Governor Soludo, apparently referring to the duo of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi the 2023 Labour Party LP Presidential candidate and some of his rivals in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the State who  signaled their intentions to serve only one term in office, called for a psychiatric test for them  for opting for a single term, rather than the constitutionally stipulated two terms.

Most of the candidates in the run for the Anambra state gubernatorial contest, especially those from the Anambra South Senatorial District, have, in the spirit of the subsisting, but unwritten  power-sharing pledged to serve for only one time in office.

“Some of them want to lie to us. How can anyone with brain come to people and be saying ‘I will do one term? They think , they are taking to fools’.

“Any politician who says that, must be sent to a psychiatrist home because the person must have some mental problems.

“When the constitution allows you to stay up to two terms of eight years, you come and be telling us that you want to do one term.

“Anybody who says he needs only one term needs psychiatric evaluation because you are taking everybody to be a fool”, Governor Soludo stated.

But in a statement from his media team on Sunday, the ADC candidate for the Anambra State off-circle gubernatorial polls scheduled for November 8, 2025, John Chuma Nwosu, berated Governor Soludo for casting aspersions on his political rivals, as well as wilfully exhibiting an insulting sense of entitlement for a second term in office.

In the statement personally signed by him, Nwosu expressed serious regret that Governor Soludo, out of desperation, have engaged in a campaign of calumny against his opponents.

According to the ADC flag bearer, Governor Soludo, owing to his abysmal performance, and the awareness that Anambra people are set to show him the exit doors, has suddenly become so nervous that he no longer controls his emotions.

Nwosu urged the Governor to improve his performance rather than resorting to blackmail and abuse of his political rivals.

According to the ADC candidate, contrary to the unfounded claims of Governor Soludo, those in the race to replace him are credible people with impeccable credentials.

It will be recalled that Governor Soludo, during his weekend Awka outing, had  dubbed his opponents street urchins without any known educational qualifications.

“Anambra has no place for street urchins. There are even  some of them who  have questionable secondary schools certificates. Some don’t have any certificate at all but want to be Governor.” Governor Soludo’ alleged.

However, Nwosu insisted that  Governor Soludo is only driven by nervousness and desperation so much so that he has resorted to engaging on campaign of calumny.

“It is deeply concerning that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has resorted to name-calling, labelling and stereotyping his political challengers, even going as far as suggesting a psychiatric evaluation.

Such remarks reflect a growing anxiety, and a clear realization that his time in office may be limited to a single term, largely due to his disappointing governance record.

“Among those vying to replace him are credible candidates from the Anambra South Senatorial Zone, most notably, Mr John Chuma Nwosu of the African Democratic Congress ADC.

“These individuals have not only pledged to serve for one term, but have done so in honour of the State’s zoning arrangement as a mark of statesmanship, integrity and regional equity.

“Mr Nwosu stands out as the only candidate who has sworn a public affidavit affirming his commitment to serving a single term in office.

“The public oath is a testament to his dedication to fairness and the rule of law, values that should be celebrated not mocked”, Nwosu’s statement reads in part.
