The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has urged the Bauchi State Governor to leave him out of his “self-inflicted problems”.
The Source reports that Governor Bala Mohammad had, on a Channels Television programme, Sunrise Daily’ on Thursday January 1, 2025, accused Wike and some Presidency officials of being behind the ordeal of some Bauchi State Government officials at the hands of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFFC, of late.
The anti-graft Commission had on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, arraigned Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu and others on multiple count charges bordering on money laundering and terrorism financing.
The Bauchi Governor who had earlier on Wednesday alleged harassment and intimidation by President BolaTinubu, allegedly, over his refusal to join the All Progressive Congress, APC, on Thursday added Wike to the list of his traducers accusing them of using the anti-graft Commission to harass and intimidate opposition forces into defecting to the ruling party at the centre.
“I know for sure that there are some people behind it, and I know them. The FCT Minister once said he will put fire in my State, and it appears that the fire is what is now raging, otherwise how can they be accusing a serving Governor whose state is one of the peaceful and stable states in North East, if not the entire North of being a terrorist” Gov Mohammad queried.
But while addressing supporters, loyalists and stakeholders in Abua-Odua Local Council, in continuation of his thank-you-visit to the people of Rivers state, Wike described Governor Mohammad’s allegations against him as a deliberate and ingenious way of shifting blame for his apparent failings as a leader.
“What the Governor is saying is that all the problems he is having were caused by me because I once said I will stoke fire in his state.
“Now the question remains: why are you fighting if actually I have such power to stoke fire in your state or cause problems for you?
“I have nothing to do with whatever problems Governor Bala Mohammad is having. I would rather advise him to face his problems”, Wike stated.
The FCT Minister also cautioned against the undue politicization of the activities of the EFCC and other anti-graft agencies, while at the same time distancing himself from the Commission’s prosecution of some Bauchi State Government officials.
