Many Party faithful think the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, deserves a suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. They think that for too long, he has taken on the Party Leadership and its Presidential Candidate. They think he has de-marketed both the Party and the Candidate. And, in their hearts, they pray Wike could just go away. Otherwise, they say, the Governor should be suspended.
But they should perish the thought. Wike is going no where. He says he would fight within the Party. The speculations that he had finalized plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC, has also been debunked by him.
He admitted at a Press Conference on Friday, he met with the APC Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu. He also admitted that Tinubu made him an offer – the Senatorial ticked of the APC, but Wike said he rejected the offer.
Referring to those who think he should be suspended from the Party, Wike dared the PDP to suspended him.
He said nobody can suspend him.
Reason: Wike taunted: Those who abandoned the Party in 2014, and those who worked against the Party, cannot just come in now and talk about suspending him. It is like: “Na we own the Party.”
He recalled how Atiku, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, who was Speaker of the House at the time, then Governor of Niger State, Aliyu Babangida, among others, worked against the PDP and the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. He revealed that Jonathan went to London to meet with Atiku, and pleaded with him to let go, to change his mind, but that Atiku refused, and worked full time against Jonathan. He recalled how Jonathan begged the six Governors and others not to leave the PDP, but they rebuffed him.
Wike holds them responsibility for the defeat of the PDP and Jonathan in 2015.
