The Segun Oni Campaign Organisation has rejected the results of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship primary conducted in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday January 26, 2022, which returned protege of former Ekiti State Governor, Bisi Kolawole as the winner.
A press statement issued in Ado Ekiti by the Director General of the Campaign Organisation, Yemi Arokodare, said several members of the Organisation were disenchanted by the process.
He alleged that the delegates’ register was mutilated and many names were missing from the register, while 32 automatic delegates who were accredited were not given tag and were not allowed to vote.
Akwa Ibom State Governor. Udom Emmanuel, Chairman of the Election Committee, allegedly threatened to arrest and lock up the delegates if any of them came into the hall.
The spokesman also alleged that the Chairman of the Governorship Primary Committee deliberately allowed former Governor Ayo Fayose, who heads a faction of Ekiti State PDP, to sit in the hall even after he has voted against the rules earlier pronounced by Governor Emmanuel.
He further alleged that Emmanuel allowed aides of Mr Fayose to sit in the hall, purposely, to intimidate the delegates.
“Therefore, the Organization concluded that the Primary was not free and fair.
“Ayo Fayose was the Chairman of Gov Udom Emmanuel Election Committee in Akwa Ibom, and the Wednesday January 26, 2022, PDP Primary Election was a payback for Ayo Fayose. Hence the Wednesday exercise cannot be said to be free and fair
“The Campaign Organisation is in the process of reviewing the activities of the National leadership of PDP towards managing the party to a success in the June 18 Governorship Election.”
Oni was a former Governor of the State who lost his bid for a second term after a first term. He has since been battling to get the chance to complete a second. It has so far been unsuccessful even after he defected to the APC, before he defected again to PDP.
