The Peoples Democratic Party has denied taking positions on the 2023 zoning formula for the Presidency, describing such reports as the figment of imagination from their detractors. A mainstream news medium ( not The Source) recently reported that the party has resolved to zone the presidency to the North east/South east in 2023, speculating that the ruling party may maintain the north west/South west zoning formula. It also alluded to the possibility that Atiku Abubakar, PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 elections, may influence the choice of an Adamawa indigen to run for the Presidency, insisting that there has been a rift between Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike, the de-facto financier of the party, and South east governors who are not comfortable with his rising political profile as a godfather. He is said by the medium to be gearing up to represent Tambuwal, the Sokoto state governor, for presidency, which has now caused a rift between him and other PDP governors who insist that the candidate should come from the North east if Atiku is no longer interested.
But the Party has debunked the allegations, calling them “speculative.”
