WAFCON 2024: Super Falcons Cruise Into Final, Defeat Bayana Bayana, To Meet Morocco For Cup

The Super Falcons of Nigeria has zoomed into the final of the ongoing Women African Cup of Nations, WAFCON, Championship in Morocco, defeating arch rivals, Bayana Bayana of South Africa 2-1.

The Super Falcons went into the match with an unchanged team that demolished the Copper Ladies of Zambia 5-0 with Chiamaka Nnadozie remaining in goal, with the quartet of Michelle Alozie, Osinachi Ohale, Blessing Demehin and Ashleigh Plumptre.

The midfield had Halimatu Ayinde, Josephine Echegini, Esther Okoronkwo, Rasheedat Ajibade and Folashade Ijamilusi, while  Chinwendu Ihezuo led the attack.

From the blast of the whistle, the Super Falcons dominated forcing South African Goalkeeper, Andile Dlamini, to make crucial saves before Rasheedat Ajibade converted from the Penalty Spot to give the Nigerian side the lead.

The Super Falcons never rested on their oars, shooting from all cylinders, not until Osinachi Ohale committed a foul in the 18 Yard Box, leading to a Penalty, which was converted by Motlhaho.

The South Africans however took control of the Match after the equalizer, pushing the Nigerians to defend.

However, an horrific injury to South African defender, Gabriella Salgado, affected the Bayana Bayana Ladies psychologically, as they couldn’t hold back tears.

As the game resumed, the Super Falcons capitalized on the devastating state of the South Africans, leading to a last gasp goal from Michelle Alozie from a cross that caught the players scrambling for the ball until it sailed into the back of the net.

With this victory, the Super Falcons are gunning for their 10th WAFCON title.

The Super Falcons will now  play Morocco which beat Ghana in a penalty shoot-out to zoom into the  Finals.
