Trump: “Merry Christmas to all, including the dead terrorists.”
President Donald Trump of the United States of America has gleefully announced that his country’s Armed Forces has carried out airstrikes in Nigeria’s North-west.
In a post on his social media platform, Trump described the strike which was carried out early Friday, Nigerian time, as “powerful and deadly”.
He said the airstrikes were targeted against extremist fighters who he accused of slaughtering “primarily, innocent Christians”
Praising the US Military for a swift, decisive and successful operation, President Trump wished all a Merry Christmas “including the dead terrorists”, and promised that ” there will be more (dead terrorists) if their slaughter of Christians continues.”
Following is the full text of President Trump’s post.
“Tonight, at my direction as Commander-in- Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even in centuries! I have previously warned these terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was. The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing. Under my leadership, our country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be more if their slaughter of Christians continues.
DONALD J. TRUMP
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”
The Nigerian Government, in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has confirmed the airstrikes and said it was: “In line with international practice and bilateral understandings” which include “the exchange of intelligence, strategic coordination and other forms of support consistent with international law, mutual respect for sovereignty, and shared commitments to regional and global security”
Governor officials of Nigeria and the United States have been meeting since President Trump accused the Federal Government of turning a blind eye to alleged genocide against Nigerian Christians. Trump promised “a swift and sweet attack with guns ablazing” to take out the terrorists and protect Christians. The Nigerian Government vehemently rejected the allegation of genocide against Christians and said both religions – Christians and Muslims – are victims of terrorist attacks.
On Christmas night, Trump fulfilled his promise of a swift attack on terrorists in the North-west of Nigeria.
