A serving Nigerian Senator in the Eighth Assembly, Rose Oko, is reportedly dead.
The Senator was said to have died in London, United Kingdom, though the cause of her death is yet to be known as at filing this report. Reliable sources however told this magazine that Senator Oko had been in a long drawn-battle with cancer.
The demise of the Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District was confirmed by a close relative who expressed shock and sadness over her passing.
Patrick Ikorgor Okoroji speaking about he demise said, “Heart broken to hear of the passing of my dear Cousin Senator Dr Rose Okoji Oko after a long fought battle with physical affliction.
“You gave your best to your world now that it has pleased the Almighty God to call you home may your soul find eternal rest in Heaven.
Adieu, Distinguished Senator Dr Rose Okoji Oko.”
The Late Oko, was born on September 27, 1956. She was a Member of the Federal House of Representatives from the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP), representing Yala/Ogoja Federal Constituency in Nigeria’s 7th class of the National Assembly.
She was elected into office as the first female representative from her constituency in June 2011, and sat as Deputy Chairman House Committee on Education.
She was elected into office as the first female Senator from her Senatorial District in June 2015, which and re-elected in 2019.
Her demise adds to the the number of Senators – four now – who passed on since their inauguration into office in 2019.
