Unknown Gunmen caused a stir at the Military Barracks in the Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, shooting sporadically into the air, leaving dead a butcher identified as Ridwan.

The incident which occurred around 8 am, Saturday, October 18, 2025, in the Mammy Market section of the Barracks led to pandemonium.

The yet to be identified gunmen were said to be Four in number, stormed the Market causing a scare as they fired several shots into the air.

Eyewitness report stated that the assailants knew their target as they headed straight to Ridwan’s stall and opened fire on him multiple times.

The incident was said to have happened within a twinkle of an eye.

A trader, who identified herself as Mummy Blessing narrated the incident, saying, “We were just opening for business when we heard gunshots. Everyone left what they were doing and ran away. Before we knew it, the men who were wearing masks went straight to where Ridwan was selling meat, shot him, and fled. When we all came back, we saw him in a pool of blood.”

The attack which could be described as a well mapped out, saw the assailants not attacking any other person, but shot sporadically into the air to scare both the buyers and sellers at the Market.

The late Ridwan’s meat stall located close to a corner in the market was seen empty and deserted when the reporter paid a visit to the scene of the occurrence.

Another eyewitness said the location of the stall aided the operation of the assailants.

“The men were very close to Ridwan’s stall when they started firing gunshots. So while everyone ran away, Ridwan could not find an escape route. That was how they successfully killed him,” the eyewitness, identified as Musa, disclosed.

It was gathered that after Ridwan was shot multiple times, efforts were made by the Market people to save his life, but this proved abortive as he was said to have been rejected at the medical facility in the Barracks.

An eyewitness who claimed anonymity said, “He was quickly carried into a tricycle and rushed to the barracks clinic, but when they got there, he was rejected and referred somewhere else. It was later in the day that we learnt he had died”.

Speculations is however rife that the attack was carried out by suspected cultists, but this is yet to be confirmed.

The deceased was also said to have been buried by the family according to Islamic rites.

Abimbola Adebisi, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, when contacted stated that she wasn’t aware of the development, stating that no such incident has been reported at the Onireke Police Station, which falls under the jurisdiction.

It would however be recalled that last month, September 2025, Four Persons were killed, while a stray bullet injured a 14-year-old boy at Onireke Busstop after gunmen attacked a crowded snooker spot near a military Barracks in the Ojo area of the State.

The assailants had stormed the fun spot, shooting sporadically at the present around 9pm, close to where Ridwan was shot.

Among the casualties was a noodles vendor who was said to have died on the spot.

The reoccurring Insecurity incidents in the area, has further heightened insecurity, leading to calls for more effective security for people of area.
