UNIABUJA Defends Selection Process For New VC

The University of Abuja, (UNIABUJA) has stated that ongoing selection process for the Vice chancellor followed due process. It, also, stated that the accomplishments of Prof Aisha Danni Maikudi during the period she acted as the VC, added to her credentials.

There was a protest on Tuesday purportedly embarked upon by some Professors on UniAbuja campus against the alleged move to appoint Aisha Maikudi as VC.

At the centre of the protest were moves by the University Management to choose members of the VC Selection Committee Board.

The Governing Council was allegedly attempting to make Maikudi the substantive Vice-Chancellor, despite her purported ineligibility under advertised criteria.

But the University, in a statement,  dismissed claims that Aisha Sani Maikudi, the Acting VC, was being unfairly favoured.

The Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Habib Yakoob, said Maikudi’s qualifications showed her accomplishments during her tenure.

The University reiterated its commitment to a transparent and merit-based selection process conducted under relevant regulations.

The institution, also, addressed allegations of protests and harassment of Journalists, a situation it described as a misunderstanding

It stated that there was no coercion or confrontation during the non-existent senate meeting.

The University emphasised its commitment to fostering positive relationships with the media and ensuring the safety and security of all individuals on campus.

It urged all stakeholders to allow the selection process to proceed without interference or politicisation.
