Two Dead, 23 Injured, In Ebonyi Road Mishap

At least two persons, including a 9 month old baby were on Monday April 14,2025  confirmed dead  in a ghastly road accident at the Uduma Junction Uburu community, Ohaozara Local Council of Ebonyi state on Sunday April 13, 2025.

No fewer than 23 others were also said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident that involved a bus carrying about 25 persons tumbling several times at a sharp corner.

Eye witness accounts  informed that the bus lost control while negotiating a sharp corner.

According to the witnesses, the driver was on  high speed, making it difficult for him to control the vehicle while negotiating the sharp corner.

The development was said to have resulted in the bus summersaulting several timehe injured said to have been  rushed to the Dave Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital DUFUTH for medical attention.

A statement on Monday from the spokesperson for DUFUTH,  Agwu Nwogo, noted that majority of the victims are Ebonyi state citizens who were heading back to their stations after attending a burial ceremony in Okporike Abakaliki, the State capital.

According to him, the injured were brought to the DUFUTH immediately after the accident.

Nwogo stated that two persons were confirmed dead on arrival at the facility, while 23 injured individuals with serious injuries were taken to the emergency unit .

He listed the nature of the various injuries sustained to include crushed hands, fractures, lacerations, and severe traumatic brain injuries.

However, currently 18 of the victims he noted are receiving treatment at the Accident and Emergency Unit Surgery ward and intensive care Unit.

“Four patients with minor injuries were stabilized and discharged after receiving treatment”, the DUFUTH spokesperson added.

Unfortunately, among  the severely injured victims ,currently receiving treatment is an 11 month old ,who is said to be  battling with traumatic brain injury, and in a very critical condition.
