Weeks back, members of International Olympic Committee and the Local Organizing Committee, LOC, had declared that the possibility of this year’s Olympic Games, Tokyo 2020, happening in Japan, is under probability, due to the outbreak of the deadly Pandemic, Coronavirus.
But, despite the IOC and LOC having doubt over the event coming to reality, the Japan Olympic Minister has announced that the 2020 Summer Olympics will still go ahead, that the games have neither being cancelled nor postponed, despite the coronavirus crisis ravaging the world.
Although people are beginning to reconsider attending the event, Japan’s Olympic minister Seiko Hashimoto, said that “The IOC and the organizing committee are not considering cancellation or a postponement – absolutely not at all.”
The Olympics is set to start July 24 in Tokyo.
Meanwhile, the French Olympic Committee president, Denis Masseglia yesterday told Reuters that if the COVID-19 coronavirus isn’t contained by the end of May, he couldn’t see how the Olympics could happen on time, despite the optimism displayed and exhibited by the Olympic Minister.
