President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has assured that the country will be transformed by the time President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ends his tenure.
Akpabio spoke on Tuesday in Abuja, the nation’s capital during the flag-off of the Kugbo Bus Terminal.
The president is currently in his first tenure but Akpabio said he expected him to serve the maximum eight years.
His remarks comes amidst the difficult economic situation in the country.
Not a few Nigerians have criticised the administration for making things so hard for them, due to various austerity measures introduced since it came to office last year.
President Tinubu’s critics insist that he has not shown any sine of moving the country forward.
For instance, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Olisa Agbakoba stated on Tuesday that mass protest is imminent in the country due to the current hardship.
Speaking yesterday, the Senate President, who has been trenchantly criticised for not being independent of the Executive said transformation awaits the country under Tinubu’s adminsitration.
He urged Nigerians to be patient and pray for Tinubu, saying he has no ‘doubt that by the time the president is through with his tenure in the country, seven years from today, many people will not recognise” the country again.
The Senate President said: “So, all I can say is: let us continue to pray for him and be hopeful that the challenges you see today, tomorrow, you will see them no more.
“He did it in Lagos and today, Lagos is one of the best; one of the largest economies in Africa when we are talking about cities.”
Meanwhile, not a few Nigerians insist that the Senate under Akpabio has become an appendage of the Presidency considering the manner the nation’s upper legislative chamber has conducted its affairs so far.
