Tinubu Scraps, Merges, Creates New Ministries

A new Ministry of Regional Development has been birthed, just as President Bola Tinubu scrapped Niger Delta Ministry.

Also scrapped is the Ministry of Sports Development, which functions have been put under the National Sports Commission.

These measures are part of decisions reached by the Federal Executice Council, (FEC) presided over by the president on Wednesday.

The new Ministry of Regional Development will oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission , and North East Development Commission.

According to a statement on X by the President Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports.

“The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.

It was gathered that the decision was part of measures being put in place by the federal government to cut costs and reduce huge expenses on personnel.

President Tinubu had  assured that his administration would bring down high cost of governance as part of measures to meet other yearnings of Nigerians.
