Tinubu Sacks Amosun Ally As Nigeria’s High Commissioner To UK

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has recalled Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, UK, Sarafa Tunji Isola.

Ishola, a former Minister of Mines and Steel is a close ally of Ibikunle Amosun, a former governor of Ogun state.

He once served as the Director General of APM governorship candidate in the Gateway state. APM was formed by the former governor and has contested for the governorship twice but lost.

Amosun worked against the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, during the governorship race in the state. He however supported Tinubu for president.

In the letter of his recall signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar dated August 31, 2023, Ishola was directed to report to Abuja within 60 days.

The letter reads: “I have the honour to notify you of Mr. President’s decision to recall you, signaling the end of your tenure as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Kingdom.

‘By this communication, you are now expected to commence the propose of winding down your affairs, and take formal leave of your host government within sixty days and to return to Nigeria by 31st October, 2023 at the latest.

‘I seize this opportunity to express Mr. President’s appreciation for the service you have rendered in your capacity as Nigeria’s Ambassador and Principal Representative in United Kingdom.

‘While looking forward to welcoming you in Abuja on your return, please allow me to join Mr. President in thanking your Excellency for your exemplary leadership and service to Nigeria. I wish you God’s continued guidance in your future endeavours.

‘Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurance of my highest consideration,” the letter said.

Ishola was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in January 2021 to replace Justice  George Adesola Oguntade, a former Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, JSCN.

Meanwhile, the magazine learned that Ishola may have lost his job to the crisis rocking the APC in the state. The tussle for the control of the soul of the party is between the former governor Amosun and incumbetn Governor Dapo Abiodun.
