Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has flagged off the presidential palliative distribution to the Muslim and Christian faithful in the 11 States that make up the South East and South South Geo-political zones, reminding the leaders of both faiths that President Bola Tinubu is compassionate.
During the event at Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu’s Square New Owerri on Friday, March 21, 2025, Sen. Uzodinma emphasised the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence among different faiths, stating that “it is easier for God to answer prayers when people live together in harmony.”
He urged the crowd of both Christians and Muslims who had gathered to collect the palliative from the President to view the exercise with spiritual eye that ought to resonate with the period they are fasting.
The Governor, who highlighted the significance of charity during the holy period, noted that President Tinubu has always remained a compassionate leader who means well for the country.
He maintained that the President is working hard to ensure food security by investing so much in agriculture; while at the same time providing palliatives to cushion the gap that may be created between the period of planting and harvesting.
He, therefore, called on Nigerians to always pray against anything that will distract the President from his efforts in making Nigeria a land of prosperity.
Uzodimma encouraged the representatives of Muslim and Christian Communities to prioritise the needs of the poor and vulnerable while sharing the palliative, reminding them that “true faith is about showing compassion and kindness to those in need.”
He informed that the President had magnanimously provided two trailer loads of rice, giving each State 1,200 bags of rice for the purpose of breaking their fast.
In addition, he said many cartons of Indomie were provided, with one trailer load for the Christian community and another for the Muslim community.
Uzodinma expressed gratitude to the President for the palliative measures, acknowledging that they will go a long way to “help cushion the effects of hardship occasioned by the global economic recession.”
He also announced that each of the States that came to Owerri to collect their palliative will receive N5 million as transportation grant to facilitate the distribution of the items to those they should be meant for.
Uzodimma who counselled the Christian and Muslim leaders to ensure hitch free distribution of the palliative in their respective states, insisted that the reason only 10 persons only were invited from each State for the flag off in Owerri was to avoid the usual stampede that regrettably occurs each time such an exercise is carried out.
However, he appealed to the leaders to ensure that the items are given to those who are vulnerable and cannot afford them as they observe the fast.
In their respective votes of thanks, the representatives of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and those of the Muslim Communities in the 11 States of the South East and South South expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the show of love and compassion and prayed God for peace, unity and prosperity across the nation.
They further commended Governor Uzodimma for encouraging and cultivating religious tolerance and understanding among diverse religious groups in Imo State in particular and the country at large, a situation they said has manifested in the peaceful coexistence of Christians and Muslims.
The Groups also commended the Governor for the massive road projects and infrastructural development across Imo State.
All the CAN Chairmen from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo State from the South East and their colleagues from Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers that make up the South South States were in attendance.
In the same vein, leaders of the Muslim Communities from the South East and South South States were also in attendance.
