The Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic party, SDP, during the 2023 general elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has insisted that the Bola Tinubu’s Presidency remains an excruciating punishment inflicted on the people of Nigeria by God for ignoring the principles of Justice and fairness.
This is as he maintained that the Muslim-Muslim ticket rather than being a blessing, has turned out to be a huge disappointment.
Adebayo who spoke on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the occasion of a Ramadan Iftar held in Kano by the AAFAQ Foundation, called on Nigerians to refrain from making their political preferences based on ethnic, sectarian and religious considerations.
According to him, Nigerians should rather embrace the principles of justice, equity and fairness, as well as competence in their leadership choices.
The former SDP Presidential Candidate, noted that he had during his campaign tour of Kano, and other States warned that the country was heading for the precipice, noting that he has been vindicated by the painful lessons God is serving out to the people as a result of the emergence of President Tinubu.
“Four years ago, I was in the city of Kano campaigning for the Presidency of Nigeria. And I could see that God wanted to teach us a lesson in Nigeria.
“And until we learn that lesson, there is nothing the world can do for us. Almighty Allah does not make mistakes.
“Tinubu’s Presidency should not be misinterpreted as a mark of divine favour, but should be seen for what it is- a painful lesson from God, and a wake-up call for national rebirth”, Adebayo stated.
He emphasized the need for Nigeria and Nigerians to subscribe to the principle of justice, as the cornerstone of a prosperous country.
According to him, it is not the quantum of natural resources available to a country that makes it great, but the supremacy of justice and fairness.
He particularly noted that he had warned against the dangers inherent in the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in 2023 but his concern was ignored.
“It is better to live in a country that is a desert with no water, no oil, no mineral resources, but that has justice, than to live in a land of abundance with injustice.
“When I came to Kano, during the 2023 electioneering campaigns, people were smiling when they were mentioning Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“I said don’t worry. Let the election be over. Time will come that if they were looking for two Muslims, they will not even get one. And that time is here”, Adebayo noted.
The SDP chieftain, therefore, urged the people to always consider capacity, competence, as well as justice and unity, above any other considerations in the making of political choices.
This is as he cautioned against the temptation by some people to latch on the ongoing crisis in the Middle East to disrupt the fragile peace of the nation.
While condemning the brewing disagreement and tension between Israel and Iran on one hand and Iran versus the United States of America USA on the other, Adebayo, however, warned against attacks on innocent people, especially during this Holy Month of Ramadan.
“This is not a time in which some people can gather at a place and decide to make bonfire and disrupt the peace of the country for other people who are in their own country observing the holy month.
The National Coordinator of AAFAQ Foundation, Dr Abdulmutallib Ahmad Muhammad, appreciating Adebayo for his insightful lecture, reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the body towards reshaping the country’s political environment by way of advocating for the enthronement of credible leadership.
