President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has insisted that the economic reforms embarked upon by his administration is the best for the country, and there is no going back.
The made this known in Aso Villa, Abuja, the nation’s capital on Thursday at a meeting with a delegation from the Corporate Council on Africa, CCA led by Florizelle Liser.
This is contained in a statement issued by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity.
Recall that some reforms introduced by President Tinubu, such as the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the Naira, amongst other policies have brought untold hardship to not a few Nigerians who are now calling for their reversal.
Experts have blamed the two policies, which they considered not well thought out to be behind the current economic hardship, particularly the high cost of food and other essential commodities in the country.
in their reactions, hundred of Nigerians have moved to the street in protest in the last few days, calling on the administration to intervene.
The Organised Labour under the aegis of the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, are on the verge of embarking on a strike in less than two weeks to express their dissatisfaction with the situation of things in the country.
In spite of the outburst among Nigerians, the president has insisted that the policies would turn the country around economically.
Tinubu was quoted to have said: “We are right in the middle of a challenging stage of our reforms. We have headwinds, no doubt, but we are not going back.
“We are challenged, and we believe we will overcome the challenges. I have a can-do attitude that must be translated into a must-do attitude. We have a good team, and we must remain focused to get the goal accomplished.”
