All is set for the Governorship Primary Election of the All Progressive Congress, (APC), in Ekiti State to pick the flagbearer for the June 20, election, as the party releases those that will vote in the primary.

Two leading aspirants of the party, Senators Opeyemi Bamidele and Dayo Adeyeye have advised the National Leadership of the APC to adopt direct primary in the choice of the candidate.

This, according to them, will afford all members of the party to participate in the choice of a candidate and that whosoever emerged will enjoy the support of members.

However, it was gathered at the APC Secretariat in Ado Ekiti that preparations for the Primary Election, which holds on January, 27 are geared towards indirect primary.

It was learnt that those that will make the delegates list are already identified and are mainly elected political office holders currently serving and few past ones.

All Local Government Chairmen and their Vice, that were sworn-in last week, Wards and Local Government Executives are part of the list currently being circulated.

It is, however, not clear yet whether newly elected Councilors, who are yet to be sworn in or outgoing ones whose tenure has lapsed will be on the list.

Newly elected Chairmen and their Vice in the 20 newly created Local Council Development Authorities, (LCDA) will not participate in the Primary Election as their involvement may likely trigger litigations against winner of the election.

Leaders of the party who spoke on it explained that the issue of the LCDAs remains a complex one until they are legally recognized by the constitution.

Others that are expected to be part of about 2,597 delegates, are members of State Executive council and House of Assembly members.

Also, on the list are National Assembly members, Governor and Deputy  Governor, former Speakers of the House of Assembly and ex Governors who are members of the party.
