Terrorists Invade Niger Market, Kill Over 30, Kidnap Many

The Niger State Police authorities have assured that concerted efforts are underway to locate and rescue several market women and other users abducted by terrorists at a Niger State Market.

The Source reports that no fewer than 30 persons, mostly market women, were said to have killed  by gunmen who invaded Kasuwan Daji Market, Demo Community in Borgu Local Council of Niger state on Saturday evening  January 3,through the wee hours of Sunday January 4, 2026.

The attackers who carted away several types of essential food items, also, razed down the Market during the attack which was said to have begun at about 4.00pm on Saturday ,and lasted till early Sunday Morning.

According to Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, the suspected terrorist elements kidnapped several market users during the invasion

The Police informed that the attackers who came in their numbers  arrived from the National Park Forest along Kabe District, killed and abducted several people, as well as looting and burning shops within the Market.

Although police put the number of casualties at about 30, local witness accounts said over 50 persons may have been killed.

The Police further informed that a joint security team has been drafted to the affected areas, while efforts have been intensified to rescue the abducted victims.

” On 03/01/2026 at about 9 pm information received revealed that at about 4 pm of the same date , suspected bandits from National Park Forest along Kabe District invaded Kasuwan Daji, located at Demo Village via Kabe, and burnt the market, looted shops ,and carted away food items.

“04//01/2026 at about 8 am ,a report indicated that a joint security team visited the scene and over 30 victims lost their lives during the attack .

” Some persons were also kidnapped . Efforts are ongoing to rescue the kidnapped victims . Further development will be communicated”, Abiodun stated

The latest attack comes just not too long after the remaining 130 of the about 350 abducted students of the Catholic school Papiri , in Agwara Local Government Area the state were released by suspected terrorists .
