Mr Peter Obi, Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 Election has praised Nigeria’s Security Agencies for the arrest of two Al Qaeda terrorists who have been on international wanted list.
National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu broke the heartwarming news of the arrest of both men Mahmud Muhammadu Usman and Nahmud al- Nigeri, in a delicate coordinated operation by Nigeria’s Security Agencies.
While commending the feat, Obi, pointed out that arresting criminals and recycling them back into the society is a dangerous exercise.
He said: “However, beyond arrests, we must remain vigilant. Terrorism and violent criminality thrive when justice is not served, when those arrested are recycled back into society without accountability.”
The Nigerian Government had been accused of approving the enlistment of purported repented terrorists into the Nigerian Army. But it is an allegation that both the Federal Government and the leadership of the Army vehemently denied.
But in a post on his X page later, Obi acknowledged the gallantry of Security Agents and urged the Government should eqiup them better, and train them better, and motivate them better.
Following is the post.
“Sustaining the Gains Against Terrorism and Banditry
I commend the Nigerian Security Agencies for their recent achievements in the fight against terrorism, kidnapping and banditry. This is indeed a remarkable feat and a step in the right direction in our collective struggle against insecurity and in restoring peace to our dear country.
“Our gallant officers and men in uniform have shown courage often under very difficult conditions. Their sacrifices remind us that Nigeria can – and must – be safe for all citizens. I salute their professionalism and urge that they be better equipped, trained and motivated to sustain their gains.
“Let this victory remind us that security is the foundation of every meaningful development. A secure Nigeria is possible, and together, we must support our security agencies with the right leadership, resources, and political will to end the reign of terror in our land.
A new Nigeria is Possible.
