Tension As Rivers State Police Hunts Killers Of Security Operative In Ahoada East Council

The Rivers state Police Commissioner, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, directed operatives to hunt down attackers and killers of a security personnel attached to the Onelga Security Peace and Advisory Committee OSPAC, a vigilante group in Ahoada East Local Council.

The Source reports that some armed but unidentified men had on Monday night June 23, stormed the Security outfit’s office just a few meters away from the Ahoada East Local Government Secretariat and fatally shot an operative of the Rivers state Intelligence Service, SIS.

The attack and gruesome murder of the OSPAC office and personnel, is coming just less than four days after some thugs invaded the Headquarters of the Local Government, attacked, and assaulted the Administrator, Goodluck Iheamnacho.

The attackers numbering over 30, according to the Police, also forced the Council Chairman to  sign a resignation letter they came with after vandalizing his office.

The Council’s Chief Security officer, CSO, and the Chief of Staff to the Adminstrator, alongside other participants, are currently guests to the Police over the invasion and assault.

On a visit to the scene of the attack and killing of the SIS operative, identified as Corporal Friday Francis on Tuesday morning, CP Adepoju expressed regret over the loss of the security officer.

He urged operatives to put in place all necessary measures to apprehend the perpetrators.

“This is a direct assault not just on security infrastructure, but on the peace of this community.

“We must fish out the perpetrators, dismantle their networks, and stamp out the menace of cultism in this area.

“Anyone who has any information on how to get these cultists should inform the Command”,the CP stated.

Although the identities and ,

mission of the assailants remain unknown, some locals have blamed the attack on the activities of some rival cult groups.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attack which occurred at about 9.00pm on Monday, involved heavy exchange of gunfire among some rival cult gangs. The murdered security officer was only caught up in the crossfire.

Reports indicated that there is a rising wave in cult related violence and killings in some parts of the Ahoada Local Council, and a few other Local Governments in Rivers state of recent.

Even among security circles, there are strong facts linking the attack and killing of the security operative to the activities of cultists.
