Not less than ten travellers have been kidnapped by gunmen along the Owo-Benin Road.
The incident, which happened early Tuesday, has again caused fear among travellers along the ever busy highway, which has, for sometime, been safe due to activities of Security Agents.
The victims were said to be returning to Akure from a South-South State.
The kidnappers reportedly ambushed the travellers, forcing them out of the commercial vehicle which they boarded. The vehicle was later found abandoned by the roadside.
Other motorists, upon discovering that gunmen were on prey on the highway, made a detour, while some abandoned their vehicles and alerted the nearby security posts.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command Spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, stated that seven people were abducted.
She added that investigations were underway and assured that updates would be provided as they emerged.
Meanwhile, sources disclosed that the kidnappers had reached out to the victims’ families, demanding ransom for their release.
