As the face-off lingers between former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, and the State Police Command, El-Rufai has accused senior officers of the  Command, including the Commissioner of Police, of gross misconduct.

This is coming after an attack on members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during their meeting which was being hosted by El-Rufai in Kaduna and his subsequent invitation by the Police Command.

On August 30, 2025, the former governor and some other opposition politicians were attacked by suspected political thugs during a meeting in Kaduna.

El-Rufai subsequently accused the police of collusion with the thugs, saying officers were watching while they were being attacked.

Reports emerged last week, indicating that the Command has invited El-Rufai, along with seven senior members of the ADC for questioning over allegations relating to criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief and causing grievous hurt.

The former governor petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC) in a letter dated September 8, 2025.

El-Rufai, while claiming the Police boss has been abusing his office, urged the PSC to immediately launch an impartial investigation into what he described as “unlawful and unconstitutional conduct” by authorities of the Command.

“I am writing as a citizen of Nigeria and former Governor of Kaduna State to formally lodge this complaint and demand an immediate, impartial, and exhaustive investigation into the unlawful and unconstitutional conduct of the Commissioner of Police and some officers of the Kaduna State Police Command,” part of the petition read.
