Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his confidence in the unity of the country saying his belief in a united Nigeria is ‘unshakable’.
The former leader who left power last year made the remark when he received the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi in his Daura home on Thursday.
The traditional ruler who spoke to journalists after the visit to Buhari and the Emir of Daura said he came to check on him to know his health condition.
Oba Ogunwusi said he major objective for meeting Buhari is to discuss issues affecting the country, with the aim of moving her forward.
His remark was contained in a statement issued by his palace and shared with journalists in Ile-Ife.
Ooni said, “I can happily tell the whole of Nigeria that he’s living super well. When you see him, you will be completely shocked at how relaxed and vibrant he is, radiating good spirits. He looks remarkably younger than his age, and God has truly blessed him with renewed good health.”
The first class traditional ruler said the former leader tried his best for the country, contrary to the wide spread suggestions that he did not do well as Nigeria’s Commander-in-chief, describing him as humble and approachable, noting that no leader can totally satisfy the yearnings of Nigerians.
Buhar, he said, did his best by “guiding the nation on its path.”
The statement read in part, “This meeting was not just a casual encounter but a significant diplomatic engagement underscoring the need for dialogue between leaders across the country. This historic meeting is a testament to Ooni Ogunwusi’s unwavering commitment to promoting national unity and nurturing constructive relationships within Nigeria’s leadership framework.
“During his visit, the monarch expressed the fundamental reason for his trip—to check on President Buhari’s well-being after more than a year since his departure from the presidency. He emphasised the importance of maintaining strong connections with Nigeria’s leaders, believing that these relationships are essential for cultivating a more unified nation, capable of fostering growth and prosperity for all its citizens.”
Ooni was accompanied on the visit by some traditional rulers from the South west including, the Oore of Otun Ekiti, Ajero of Ijero Kingdom, Oba Joseph Adewole; Oba Adekunle Adeayo Adeagbo; and the Alara of Ilara Epe,Lagos State, Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, amongst others.
