Sahara Reporter Publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has narrated how some policemen manhandle him in the police cell , where he was detained after he honoured police invitation at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
The magazine reports that he was invited by the police following a petition written against him.
Narrating his ordeal on X on Thursday, Sowore claimed that a team of policemen allegedly forcefully entered a cell he was in, brutalized him, broke his right hand and whisked him to another facility at the Force Intelligence Department in the nation’s capital.
According to him, the police team which was led by a CSP from Inspector General of Police, IGP Monitoring Unit, forcibly entered his detention cell and later took him away to an undisclosed location claiming they were taking him to a court.
“This morning at 6AM, a police team led by a Chief Superintendent of Police from the IGP Monitoring unit, forcibly gained entry into Omoyele Sowore cell at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja, claiming they were taking him to court.
“The team of nine officers, including eight heavily armed personnel, handled Sowore roughly when he asked to see the charges and notify his lawyers, breaking his arm in the process, before taking him to another police facility. #EgbetokunMustGo,” he claimed in the post.
Sowore had recently led some retired policemen to protest unpaid retirement benefits and pension in Abuja.
