Mixed reactions have continued to trail Wednesday’s directive to Federal Ministers nursing the ambition of Presidential and other elective offices in 2023  to resign.

Some say the order was belated while others commend President Mohamadu Buhari for it.

The South West People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) in its reaction accused political appointees in Buhari’s government of living in affluence,  and suddenly  becoming super rich.

It described the President’s order as ‘belated’ and called on the anti-graft agency, to probe their sources of stupendous wealth.

The charge was contained in a Press Statement signed by the Zonal Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Sanya Atofarati on Thursday.

According to the statement,

“The belated decision of Buhari announcing the sack of his ministers who have suddenly become presidential aspirants while still serving was due to spontaneous reactions.

“Public resentment, criticisms from eminent Nigerians and civil society groups have condemned the brazen act of lawlessness and impunity, which had become the hallmark of the APC since the party came to power seven years ago

“Buhari would go down in history as the only president who inaugurated his cabinet ministers six months after assuming power and has refused to reshuffle or rejig the cabinet ever since thereby giving room for all kinds of funny character in government.

“Amidst grave insecurity in the land, collapsed economy, infrastructure decay, fuel crisis, ASUU prolonged strike, unemployment and high cost of living across board, those who are saddled with fixing the country are in a rat race to purchase presidential nomination forms.

“We drew the attention of the Nigerian public in 2018 when Fayemi as a Federal Minister, refused to resign his appointment before joining the governoship race in Ekiti.

“He used all the paraphernalia of office to force his way to the Government House, the same pattern the likes of Ngige, Akpabio, Malami and their co travellers are toeing.

“This impunity can not stand. Now that the sacked ministers have been stripped of their high horse mentality, the EFCC should begin an immediate probe of the sources of their stupendous wealth leading to the purchase of presidential nomination forms at outrageous N100m! going forward”
